Other Criteria of IOCL Apprentice Recruitment
Age Limit: Age of the candidates must be minimum 18 years and maximum age shall be 24 years as on 30th September 2026 for General/ EWS candidates.
Age Relaxation: The relaxation of upper age limit for reserved categories are as follows:
- SC/ST: 5 years
- OBC/ MOBC: 3 years
- PwBD: 10 years
- PwBD-OBC(NCL): 13 years
- PwBD-SC/ST: 15 years
Educational Qualification:
Trade Apprentice -Attendant Operator (Chemical Plant) Discipline - Chemical: 3 years B.Sc (Maths, Physics, Chemistry or Industrial Chemistry)
Trade Apprentice (Boiler) Discipline - Mechanical: 3 years B.Sc (Maths, Physics, Chemistry or Industrial Chemistry)
Trade Apprentice (Boiler) Discipline - Mechanical: 3 years B.Sc (Maths, Physics, Chemistry or Industrial Chemistry)
Technician Apprentice Discipline- Instrumentation: 3 years Diploma in Instrumentation Engg/ Instrumentation & Electronics/ Instrumentation & Control Engg, / Applied Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering.
IOCL Recruitment 2026 Selection Process
- No written test will be conducted.
- Selection will be based on merit, considering the overall percentage of marks obtained in all subjects across all years/semesters of the required qualification.
- Candidates applying for apprenticeship training for the first time will be given preference.
- In case of a tie, the older candidate will be ranked higher. If the date of birth is also the same, the candidate with higher Matriculation marks will get preference.
- PwBD candidates who received relaxation in qualifying marks will be considered against reserved seats based on merit within their category.
- The final engagement will depend on the availability of seats and suitability of candidates. The management may leave seats vacant if suitable or sufficient candidates are not available.

Syllabus of IOCL Apprentice Recruitment
a) The Selection shall be on the basis of marks obtained by the candidate in the Online Test and meeting the notified eligibility criteria.
b) The Online Test will be conducted with Objective Type Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ’s) consisting of four options with one correct option.
c) The candidates will be assessed on parameters/sections as below.
Trade Apprentice (Fitter / Electrician / Electronics Mechanic / Instrument Mechanic / Machinist) & Technician Apprentice (Mechanical / Electrical /Instrumentation / Civil / Electrical & Electronics / Electronics):
• Technical Acumen in relevant discipline
• Generic Aptitude including Quantitative Aptitude
• Reasoning Abilities
• Basic English Language Skills
Graduate Apprentice (BA/B.Com/B.Sc/BBA.):
• Generic Aptitude including Quantitative Aptitude
• Reasoning Abilities
• Basic English Language Skills
Trade Apprentice (Data Entry Operator/ Retail Sales Associate):
• Generic Aptitude
• Reasoning Abilities
• Basic English
d) The candidates will have to qualify successfully through each stage of the selection process i.e.Online Test (Minimum 40%, relaxable by 5% for candidates from SC/ ST/PwBD categories against reserved positions), document verification and Pre engagement medical fitness for being adjudged suitable for engagement.
e) Candidates are advised to ensure that they are medically fit as per IndianOil’s pre engagement medical standard.
