GATE Notification 2026:
Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Guwahati has released the official notification for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2026. GATE 2026 will be conducted for 30 subjects (also referred to as “papers”) and it would be distributed over February 07th, 8th, 14th and 15th 2026. The examination would be purely a Computer Based Test (CBT).
Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is a national examination conducted jointly by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and all 23 Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) on behalf of the National Coordination Board (NCB), Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India.
Qualifying in GATE is a mandatory requirement for seeking admission and/or financial assistance to: (i) Master’s programs and direct Doctoral programs in Engineering/Technology/Architecture and (ii) Doctoral programs in relevant branches of Arts and Science, in the institutions supported by the MoE and other Government agencies. Even in some colleges and institutions, which admit students without MoE scholarship/assistantship, the GATE qualification is mandatory.
Further, several Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) have used GATE score to shortlist the candidates for employment. A few such organizations are: Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), Gas Authority of India Limited (GAIL), Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC), Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL), Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) and Power Grid Corporation of India (PGCIL).
Direct recruitment to Group A level posts in Central government, i.e., Senior Field Officer (Tele), Senior Research Officer (Crypto) and Senior Research Officer (S&T) in Cabinet Secretariat, Government of India, is now being carried out on the basis of GATE score.

Educational Qualification: Candidates who are currently studying in the 3rd or higher years of any undergraduate degree program or who have completed any government approved degree program in Engineering/Technology/Architecture/Science/Commerce/Arts/Humanities are eligible to appear for GATE 2026. How to Apply for GATE Exam?
Interested and eligible candidates may apply online for Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) by visiting official GATE Portal. Candidates may follow below mentioned steps to apply for GATE 2026.

b) Click on the "Online Application Form".
c) Fill your all personal and educational details and upload necessary documents.
d) Pay the necessary application fee as per your category.
e) At the end, submit the application form and take a print out of the application form.
