Eligibility Criteria of Cotton University PG Admission
Cotton University accepts the application for Post-Graduate Entrance Examination, 2026 through the official online application portal. Students fulfilling the following eligibility criteria and are willing to complete their postgraduate course from Cotton University may now submit their online applications through the official portal.
- The minimum eligibility condition for admission to Postgraduate Degree Programmes of Cotton University is a Bachelor’s Degree from a recognised university, and LLB degree for LLM.
- Candidates having a study gap of more than 3 years from the qualifying examination are not eligible for admission. However, this restriction does not apply to the LLM programme.
- Candidates who have appeared/ appearing in the qualifying examination 2026 are also eligible to apply.
Application Fee: Candidates need to pay an application and entrance fee of Rs 1200/-, payable only through the web portal for online application.

Syllabus of exam: Questions shall be based on the Cotton University UG syllabuses of the concerned subjects except for subjects not being taught as Honours/Core courses in this University. For those subjects not being taught as Honours/Core courses in Cotton University the entrance examinations shall be based on corresponding standard syllabuses reputed Universities of India under UGC.
Negative marking: For every correct answer 4 marks shall be awarded and for each wrong answer 1 mark shall be deducted.
About Cotton University
Cotton University is a premier institute of higher learning in Assam. Formerly known as Cotton College, the institute was established in 1901 by Sir Henry Stedman Cotton, the Chief Commissioner of the erstwhile British province of Assam. It became a constituent college of Gauhati University in 1948. The college had been the centre of the freedom movement as well as numerous literary and cultural engagements of the state that cemented Assam’s status as an integral component of India.
In 2011 the Cotton College State University was established vide an Act of the Government of Assam, with the college as a constituent. Cotton University came into being in 2017 via The Cotton University Act, 2017 that enabled the unification of Cotton College State University and Cotton College.
